UKAS Accredited and Onsite Legionella Testing in Goole
Legionella Testing designed to help manage and reduce the risk from Legionella bacteria. Meeting the requirements of the HSE's ACOP L8, HSG 274 and the Dept of Health's HTM 04-01.
Please note that we only carry out Legionella Testing when a Legionella Risk Assessment has been carried out within the last two years. This is because Legionella Testing on it's own does not demonstrate compliance with the ACOP L8 or HTM 04-01. The need for a Legionella Risk Assessment and not just Legionella Testing or a Test Certificate was clarified by the HSE over a decade ago in myth buster case 357.

Why Test for Legionella Bacteria
There is no automatic requirement to test for Legionella bacteria, even in healthcare sites.
The ACOP L8 and HTM 04-01 recommend testing when there is doubt or concern over the sites control and prevention measures.
However, regular testing at sites that present an increased risk can help manage and reduce the risk.
UKAS Accredited v Onsite Testing
Both the ACOP L8 and HTM 04-01 both require that Legionella testing is carried out using a UKAS accredited testing method.
Onsite testing kits are not usually UKAS accredited, are limited by what they can detect, do not give accurate bacterial counts and any positive test will require a UKAS accredited test. However, they can be useful in emergency situations.
Dip Slides for Legionella Testing
The use of Dip Slides has been identified in HSG 274 part 1 to test for aerobic bacteria in cooling systems.
Dip Slides should not be used to test hot or cold water systems.
HTM 01-05 from the Department of Health also states that Dip Slides is not an acceptable method for testing Dental Equipment.
